A Good American

Just finished reading this novel – A Good American by Alex George.  A multi-generational narrative about what it means to be, well, a good American – written by an Englishman transplanted in Missouri.  Even though the amount of major tragedies that happen to this family is highly improbable, I recommend it if you’re looking for something to read this summer.  It’s a quick read and touches on a lot of the themes we discussed this semester.  Most noteworthy is that it takes place in a small midwestern (Missouri) town, and the most “villainous” character eventually founds a McDonald’s-inspired burger chain and moves to into a McMansion in suburbia.
