Looking at the American Icons Temple cover photo, it is hard to miss the Raytheon name and banner. Raytheon became synonymous in Northern Ireland in 2008 when anti -war activists stormed their headquarters in Derry/Londonderry and proceeded to throw a large number of files out the windows. Raytheon’s global impact is large as it develops and tests a large amount of military systems including Radars and missile defense systems. Some of these notable systems include the : MIM-104 Patriot, currently deployed in Turkey due to the threat’s from the Syrian civil war, the BGM-109 Tomahawk also became widely recognized in the Shock and Awe campaigns of the Second Gulf War.
Its status as an American symbol is interesting considering that many US based defense firms consider public exposure quite a negative thing, especially when exposed to the world at large, outside of the USA. Raytheon closed its offices in Northern Ireland in February 2010.
