The hot dog is a great example of an all American food. With a fuzzy history similar to the hamburger, no one can truly say when the hot dog was created, but since its creation it has had a longstanding relationship with American society.
Baseball, America’s favorite past time, goes hand in hand with the hot dog. Even today, Phillie’s Games promote “Dollar Dog Nights” showing that this loving relationship among baseball and hot dogs is still present. Hot Dogs are quick, mobile, and cheap. You can buy one on the go at a corner hot dog stand or you can grab one on the go at a gas station or convenience store. I think that currently, a lot of American holidays are marked by eating hot dogs, for hamburgers and hot dogs on the barbecue are a staple for independence day, memorial day weekend, and labor day weekend. Hot dogs are often found on the children’s menus in restaurants because they are easy, not too messy, and familiar. Hot dogs, or variations of them, have been in America since the late 1800s, and still now, the relationship between America and hot dogs is stronger than ever.
