Presented here, is the Walt Disney Company logo as an American Icon. The Walt Disney logo can remind us of both the Walt Disney company and Walt Disney the man, an American Icon in his own right. Behind the words Walt Disney lies the iconic Disneyland castle, a structure which is replicated inside the Disney company theme parks. While the Walt Disney logo can symbolize many different themes such as childhood, imagination, fantasy and adventure, importantly, it is a reflection of America. The company was built from the bottom up by two American brothers to become a multinational mass media corporation producing works in numerous areas such as film, television, theatre, music, radio, publishing, merchandising, online media and travel. Today, the logo is instantly recognizable as a product of America, with Disney stores selling Disney memorabilia all over the world and the Disney channel producing numerous, highly grossing television shows and movies that reach a global audience. In addition to this, there are Walt Disney theme parks spread across the world in locations such as Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and California. Within the United States, Disneyland Florida is a hotspot for tourists as both adults and children alike are excited to meet their beloved fictional characters, one such being Mickey Mouse, (above) who is probably one of the most well recognized animations in history. The original Disneyland theme park in California was aimed to represent American cultural values amongst other things. In a 1953 pamphlet on Disneyland, Bill Walsh wrote, “Disneyland will be based upon and dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America.” Not only did the company become involved in creating propaganda animation during World War Two but it is also known for reflecting the conservative political values of its founder Walt. Additionally, a promotion of traditional American values can be seen via various storylines and characters that Walt created. The Walt Disney Company’s worldwide popularity, the story of its progression and the fame of its characters are what make this image an American Icon.
